2012 Acura TSX - Special Edition (Performance Mods)

I was thinking about a Cold Air Intake and Performance Chip?
Its a 204HP 2.4 Liter V4 engine, 6 speed manual.

Any specific suggestions for particular parts, even than what i generically mentioned would be greatly appreciated. I have never modded any car i have had, but would love to start with my new Acura TSX. Thanks!

PS. i have never modded anything before, and am looking to not void and warranties if possible.

+1. It's I4 not v4.

Intake, downpipe, porter runners, pulley, tb spacer, etc. All good performance mods. But nothing will make it significantly faster unless you go forced induction.

I'd also recommend suspension mods. Springs/coilovers. Rear sway bar. Chasis bars.

Light weight wheels. Good tires.

And welcome to the forum man. Post some pics of your ride! And use the search function before starting a thread will help you a long way

the engine is the same as has always been in the second gen 09+ so just look at the other mods that people have done on the I4. CAI, downpipe, sway bars, and lowering is a good start.

yes i4, my mistake!

i will post some pictures soon. I just had my wing spoiler installed today.

i was talking to someone who works alot with cars, and he suggested a better catalytic converter, cold air intake, and bigger/better exhaust pipe?

I also saw some chips online for my 2012 tsx. here is an example of one:

http://www.engineperformancechip.com...or-control-p-6

now, i dont know if its any good, again i have no experience. let me know.

and again, im not looking for a HUGE boost, or increase. just little mods to make my car a little better than it already is.

this is a no-no sir. why would you buy something that has the box of what could resemble a match box car. if your goin to mod a car like the tsx or tl etc dont cheap out. you get what you pay for. look back in past threds about mods. the 2012 is the same as 09 and up so you can get an idea of where to go. once you get intake headers exhaust pulleys then thats about all unless you want to dump thousands for a s/c when it comes out. look back.

i agree with you. I wasn't planning on purchasing that specific one, if i purchased one at all, just wanted to show that it exists. I have seen some between 300-400 bucks as well. if you have any suggestions, please share.

Basically i want to make my car perform better and better over time. again, i do not want to void any warranties in the process and that are safe/dont do damage. I would put in around $1000 or so worth of Mods little by little. If you can suggest what to install 1st and so forth, i would appreciate it. I am looking at the injen cold air intakes possibly to start? then work from there as i continue to save money to better my car.

just take a look at the performance threads on here. 1000 wont get you THAT far. and personal opinion, NEVER go for universal when it has to do with electric/engine. every model is different. theres a reason custom ones are more expensive and rare. you can't modify other ones just a little and have them work well. wait on a specific one for us

Look at post #2 in this thread here..it may help you.

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tsx-performance-parts-modifications-299/%241000-worth-mods-836182/

and as for the warranty, just read this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act

and use the search function...the questions you are asking have been covered before so you can find lots of information this way. There have been some very good posts in the past that may not be repeated again in this thread so you need to look

ttk5 provided some helpful info there

I am in process of sending my ECU to mother Russia for a reflash. Right now it looks like the best gain you can buy for the money for 22 ft/lb at 4500rpm and 25hp at 6300rpm and this is for the automatic. I believe this means about 191hp and 180 ft/lb at the wheels. After getting the reflash I do plan on getting the intake and gradually more stuff ttk5 mentioned. Hopefully I can get 200hp and 190ft/lb at the wheels.

LOL thanks but let's hold that thought until I get something concrete. We can all celebrate at that point

I sure hope so as well with all that money going in. I'm thinking about running a dyno after I get the reflash done just so that we all know exact numbers. But do we even know for sure how much power our stock 5spd AT puts down at the wheels? It's hard to confirm the gains when there are no base line numbers lol.

This.

IMO, the I4 isn't really going to gain any meaningful power without forced induction or an all motor build, so you might as well tighten it up around the turns. The current steering and chassis set up is great as it is and has the potential to be awesome. Yes, there are bolt-ons that will give you some peak whp and maybe some area under the curve, but for the money, I'd personally throw it into handling first.

I have the ultra racing chassis braces, totally worth it. Car handles flat and feels great in the corners.

not to yell at you, cause i love you
but

DO A BEFORE AND AFTER DYNO every car puts down different numbers, you do a comparison, you need your numbers prior to the flash, and also after

I am feeling the love.

I agree with your logic so how much should a dyno run cost me? It should be negotiable if I tell the shop I want to run it twice?

on that i have no clue. talk to heeltoe/throwdown? i think they are both CA based, so if you are close enough and buying other parts from them, they may trade cheap dyno's for your results. im sure they'd wanna know if the flash may combine with another mod from them(like downpipe and CAI to provide epic boost) im talking out of my ass, but maybe hahaha

Hey guys

after researching the forums and online, i believe that i want to start with the following mods:

I am looking to buy a CAI, and also a Catback Exhaust to compliment it.

I need help with deciding between INJEN, AEM, and K&H (though its not legal in my state of NJ)

Also, Unfortunately, i cant find ANYTHING for my particular model/year vehicle for the Exhaust.

The closest thing i find is for the 1st gen Acuras.

I really wanted a Skunk 2

If anyone can assist whether its a Skunk 2 or a different brand.

All your help is greatly appreciated!!

intakes should work with no problems

stock exhaust for cu2 are pretty free flowing already..so you wont find much. someone did fit a skunk2 exhaust from the 1st gen into the 2nd gen, although it took a lot of fabrication

I found a place that does it for $85 which isn't bad for one run but for runs that'd run up to nearly $200 bucks. I think I'm only going to dyno it after I get reflash after all it's how much hp/torque I end up with not so much the gains.

GameOVER--- if you want I'll do an even trade for your 2012 dash cluster. I think my '09 cluster will gain you about 5hp. I don't need the extra hp anyways. I just want the looks.

Ed,

will the stock exhaust sound anything like the below video, with an injen CAI?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll0ePUMYlYM

Also, am told that a better exhaust, helps with the added intake of air... is that not a big deal on the stock exhausts on the 2nd gen tsx's?

intake doesnt affect the exhaust note, it only affects the sound of the engine. so it will sound no where near that

a better exhaust does help with air flow, but again its hard to find one in the state for us 2nd gen, unless you import from japan or germany/russia

if your talking about the price because heres a video of a supercharger the title says comptech cat-back. the car in the vid has that cat-back. the exhaust is 1200 not the s/c. but if you ment y is the exhaust is 1200 well b/c its like paying for spoon or mugen or polo. you but it b/c there the top and perform great and where people see them they know you dont skip out on your car.
