Installing OEM Trunk Lip Spoiler

Hey guys, I got got an OEM Lip spoiler and going to install it but i had a few questions:

1st, has anyone installed it without drilling? I really dont want to drill into the trunk and was hoping the 3m tape that was supplied will be enough...

2nd, what is the metal bar that came in the box? what is it supposed to do!?!

Well the stick attaches to the trunk hing so trunk can pop up now that its heavier. If you look in your trunk close to the rear deck you see where it goes. Works kinda like a spring.

i have an ebay replica of the OEM wing installed without drilling. Even though the wing was a replica, the instructions still said to drill. I just went out to Autozone and picked up more of the 3M body tape to make sure it stuck well.

You need the official instructions (check the acura e-store for the pdf file). The metal bar is a stronger trunk spring (torsion bar spring), and you will need to replace one of the exisitng ones with this one. I believe that a special tool is needed.

Here's the link for the deck lid spoiler, click on the model year instruction and download the pdf file for installation instruction.

Thanks for the reply guys. I just looked at the .pdf and decided it is not worth the effort to get the specialty tool and install the spring since the trunk still pops up fine.

Also didnt drill...the 3m tape seems to hold strong enough.

3M tape does the job well. Just check it once in a while when you wask your car to make sure all is fine. It should be, but just check it. As for the springs, just remove the counter weights in the trunk lid and see if you like it better.

This one holds 5lbs. The other one more common holds 2lbs. 2lbs actually should be strong enough because the spoiler is only about 2lbs, right?

This tape was described to be as "Strong as f%$##." It's what I used on my spoiler and it's holding up well.

My spoiler may be different from yours, but I tape around the rim of it. And left some gaps for maybe the water to drain. Optional, just my idea. I just didn't want moisture build up to weaken the tape.

But if I had to do it over again, maybe I would only do drain spots on the bottom.

BTW, how do I edit my reply? I don't see an icon.

Here is the link.

They sell in smaller amounts. I think I paid $5, and have enough left over for another spoiler.
