Noob lighting question

All-

Sorry if this seems like a basic question, but I just bought a 2011 TSX and am new to the mod scene. I'm basically trying to figure out what kind of bulb to replace my stock daytime running/highbeams with. I don't like the yellowish look of it, and want something whiter, I know the low beams are HID and I've read almost every thread on this site and am still a little confused. The bulb (according to the manual) is a D2S. Can HID's be used as running/highbeams? If so, do I need to run a conversion kit on the stock coupling? Should I use a different kind of bulb? Looking for something that looks like a 6000k HID, even if it's a halogen lamp. Any help is appreciated.

THX

The lowbeams are 4300k hids and d2s bulbs. The drls/highbeams are regular halogen I believe, and most people replaced them with nokya arctic whites or something like that. If you try to get the drls close to 6000k, keep in mind they will look a little different from your lows. Anyway this was just a quick reply, the pros will give ya more info in a lil while when they wake up =P

pyros right ^ hes a pro too

everything he said, also the low beams that come on during the daytime will never look close to HIDs. Even with nokya arctic white or any 7000k halogen bulbs, itll still have a hint of yellow. Thats just the downside of halogen bulbs.

The closest you can get is ijdms LED drls. the downside to these bulbs is that the resistor its attached to can get very hot (noones had any issues yet thankfully), the price, and that in sunlight they are barely noticeable at all due to the reflectice properties of LEDs, on the bright side, they are the whitest white you can get, and when you can see them properly, they are the best looking thing available for your DRLs

for the price, i picked up a shitty set of nokya arctic whites. they dont look that great, but when the car is parked the tint of the bulb reflects and makes the housing look blue and pretty sick

also, with any aftermarket bulbs, you are gonna lose the awesome high beam power of the stock philips DRL.

you could also just run your HIDs and fogs 24/7 with the switch in the right position, i see 2g owners doing that here in the daytime sometimes, and your DRLs will never, ever come on.

sincerely,

Thanks!

Sicne the Nokyas aren't to much dough, I may try them and see what they look like. Was also considering either the Yellow Nokyas for the fogs or dropping in an HID kit. May just change out the fog bulbs to new halogens if the runners are going to be halogen too. Will post some pics when I do it.

i personally love to have my lowbeams and fogs on at all times, makes the car look sick, especially when i put the 6000k HID fogs and 6000k lowbeams in this week. never cared about the daylight running lights cause of that, and i don't care about the highbeams

iJDM LED DRLs are what I went with! Just ordered a second set for my cousin's Accord Coupe. It looks sick. During a sunny day, it doesn't even look like they're on, which is cool, on an overcast day they just look amazing.

HID Fogs and HID lows as well.

If you're in an area where you'll never have to use your high beams, then switch out the bulbs for LEDs for that white light. I'm using the nokya arctic white bulbs and I love the blue tinge when my car isn't on. Sadly, like others have said, when my DRLs are on, still doesn't look completely white.

Also, for the guys who are changing up their HID bulbs, care to make a write up on how to get to the bulbs or a DIY on it? I've been searching and no one's made one yet. Would be nice. Thanks!

Mrstack, do you mean the hid low beams? How to change the bulb? Or the fogs to HID fogs

I mean the HID low beams. I can change the high beams easy and fogs I haven't tried. A DIY for fogs would be helpful too.

Low beam instructions are not in the manual. The manual states that the lowbeams are high voltage and should be changed by the dealer. The fogs have multiple ways. Pop off the bumper. There is an access panel from the front wheels, and if you jack up the car, you can remove a cover for easy access. The last way is in the manual. I will replace both fogs and lowbeams this week, when I do, I will make a video or picture DIY

Thanks so much PyroDave. That's exactly what I know I will be needing when I decide to switch bulbs or even go for an HID kit for my fogs. I'm attaching a pic of my DRLs with Nokya Arctic White bulbs when they're not on to show the blue look that's visible.

Ed the 2010 manual does not have it. How to change the fogs and the high beams, yes. But they feel 55w is too high voltage. Maybe it's in your 2009 one

No I changed all my interior lights and license plate with LED but I haven't gotten time to take off the bumper cause of the crappy weather. I also have alot going on because I have four AP tests next week, and prom in a lil over 2 weeks. But I'll try to do it asap cause I know your waiting on it. Btw shoot me a link to the nokya bulbs that make it blue. I have a vortex blue tsx so that might look awesome

Here's the link to the guy I bought it from. Got them for 12 and change. Next lowest right now is around 14. I'm sure if you message the ebay guy, he could post up another auction or something. According to that auction, he had more than 10 left.

Nice with the LED interior. I recently did that to mine also. Now at night, the interior lights make it look like I don't even have tints on. I'll try to take a night time pic when I can. And definitely no rush with the DIY guide. School and prom is important. I have no rush to change up my fogs or low beam. Waiting on my last LED license plate bulb before I finish off LED'ing my car.

The 2011 Owners Manual states the following, for those curious:

High Voltage Discharge Type
High voltage can remain in the circuit for a long period of time after the light is
switched off. Do not attempt to inspect or replace the high voltage discharge type
bulbs yourself. Ask a dealer to inspect and replace low beam headlights.
Hope that helps.
