My Heat smells like burning plastic/rubber...
 

Car is only 300 miles new....It had a burning smell from the heater, no smell when circulation is on or a/c is on. Smells like if I caught a plastic bag under my car or something. But i don't think I have...What should I do?

Mine hit 20,000 miles tonight and it has a smell when I turn the heat/defroster on too almost like a musty smell. I assume that it has something to do with the winter weather or something but I don't know...

maybe it's just the smell of bayside creeping into your new car smell? i hear that's a dangerous combination, very flammable.

Sometimes when I have the heat on I get a wierd smell that is kind of like burning as well. Not all the time though,.........wierd. My car has 6000 kms on it.

i got this smell yesterday and i was pretty freaked out, first time it has happened.....does anybody have a real answer for what's up?

I don't know what the reason is, but mine has the same smell. Now that I'm at about 3,000m I don't smell it as much, but at first I was scared it was my clutch. I know a burning clutch has more of a plastic burning smell, but still it freaked me out. Maybe there's just one guy on the assembly line that puts the heater core in and he has leprosy. So while we expected to have Japanese parts in the care we just didn't expect HIS Japanese parts. Just a guess. Someone take apart their dash and prove me wrong!

Strange. My car has 8500km and I started smelling faint burning scent with the heater on this winter. Got all worried and searched in tsx forums, and it's as if no one in other forums ever have these problems. I found a bunch of topics on this forums related to the new-car-burning-smell also, and not a mention of that in the other forums. huh.

Anyway, good to know it's not something I should be super concerned about.

Well, its the heater, what kinda smell did you expect? Methane? xD

Mine has done this since new....first I thought it was rust inhibitor burning of the motor and exhaust...but 1000mi. later I doubt that it hasn't burned off by now. Not to mention you all have the same problem. Maybe its the smell of the cabin filter getting hot. The filter is plastic.
