ABS pump (VSA modulator) for 2004 6MT, different from other years?
I've had what I believe is a bad/dead ABS pump module (or as Acura calls it VSA Modulator) on my 2004 TL 6MT. The ABS, VSA, BRAKE dash lights are always on and scanner pulled error code '86-1 CAN relation failure'. Been driving without ABS and TC for over a year now no issue and cruise control works, but finally looking to replace the ABS unit to see if that's the cause (fuse under dash was also fine, iirc #18?). Started looking for replacement TL ABS pumps on eBay, I found a manual transmission one but it says its for 2005-2006 TL only... contacted seller and they also said wont work for my 2004 6mt.
My question is will the 2005-2006 manual ABS pump work for my 2004 manual car? Or do I need to find a 2004 manual trans specific ABS pump for my car? If the latter what is the part number I'm looking for? Most of the eBay listings dont seem to have a part number either other than 'SEPAx' (my cars is SEPA5 if that matters). Thanks!

Naturally I searched for both of these unit's part number on eBay but nothing exactly matching them ever comes up. But my question is if the ABS unit for the 2004 manual transmission TL different from the 2005 or 2006, of which I did find a used manual one? Or can I use a 2005-2006 ABS pump to replace mine? I'm only looking for used units, not willing to spend $1.5k on a new one.
I looked up a 2005 TL VSA modulator on the same site and yeah looks like they both have different part numbers from the above 2004 ones...

When looking at ABS pumps where is the full part number located on the actual unit? I might just have to eyeball the units listed on eBay off their pictures...

The ABS modulator's new current part # is 57110-SEP-L51 in both thoiboi's link & the image shown below, it is specifically for the 04 TL 6MT.
When I search ebay on that part number I get 'No exact match found'.
However, when I search ebay on the OLD part # 57110SEPA51 (circled in red) with the hyphens removed, I get 5 results on the link below:
57110SEPA51 for sale | eBay
These may be your best 'low cost' option?
I'm not exactly sure (though thinking more likely not) if an 05 TL 6MT ABS modulator (57110-SEP-A64) would work on your 04 TL MT because they are different part numbers; however, you are welcome to try and report back?
I would gamble on one of the ebay results for 57110SEPA51 before rolling the dice on an 05 ABS unit.

Not sure how to edit my posts, even though I'm not new to forum boards lol. But I think I narrowed down my 2004 6MT ABS unit part number to '57110-SEP-A51', the one linked above on oemacuraparts '57110-SEP-L51' is the newer replacement for it. Wish the site would say which transmission it's for, but after searching the SEP-A51 on eBay and looking through a few listings it seems to be the Manual one.

Looks like L51 replaces A51 so so long as you find L51, you should be good. ABS modulator should not be different between Auto and Manual.

I'm kind of in the same situation with my 2003 CL-S 6MT if the ABS module sh!ts the bed.
I can either pay for new OEM at $1072.95.
Or search ebay for a low cost used one off of the following Honda models:
Or search car-part.com for one off of a wrecked 03 CL-S6 (not likely to find) or the above Honda model salvage cars.

Quick update, I went ahead and bought a used 57110SEPA51 ABS module off eBay. I had messaged the seller yesterday to confirm if it had come off a manual car but never replied so said screw it and pulled the trigger.
Going to hopefully swap it in next weekend and see how that goes. Also did another scan of the ABS code using the same Autel Autolink OBDII scanner, attached a pic of the code:
Hoping this one and only code means it’s just a dead ABS unit.

As you know / understand, the due diligence process is a 'PIA'; however, if not done reasonably it may come back to bite.

The 04 modules are different from the 05-06 6MT models. Here's my thread a few years ago on my 05 6MT VSA issues - https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...64-1-a-984443/
I believe I also had the 86-1 code as well but I suspected the 64-1 code to be the one to follow. But I believe I had about 4 "-1" codes in total. Would recommend walking through my thread if it helps.
I took a shot in the dark and replaced the VSA modulator with one from a '06 6MT. I found the 04 was a different PN, but would likely work imo. Took about 2 years to wait for LKQ to get a 05-06 6MT and got the VSA module for $70. Swapped it and bled the brakes and my VSA light turned off and my VSA button worked for the first time.

Update: received the replacement used ABS module from eBay yesterday and swapped it in (the bottom bolts that attach the module to the bracket were a massive pita to reach). Using the Autel I first read the codes (this used one had a bunch stored, I guess since was from an accident/crashed car), cleared them all then did another read and the same DTC 86-1 CAN relation failure code is still there! Along with the same 3 dash lights all still on! So didn't fix anything.
I also had to bleed the brakes at all 4 corners this morning just to get the car drivable and back to square one… I’m thinking it wasn't an issue with the ABS module
Did some more reading online and asking around and it could be a continuity issue? Or maybe just need a VSA reset done using the HDS? Or even the module itself needs updating?
Since I obviously don't have HDS i was thinking to try this procedure in this thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-light-912479/
But I dont have hope as it was for a 84-1 issue, and on my car the 3 dash lights are all always permanently on, they never turn off. And i still have not seen any other DTC code other than 86-1.

All in all, it was a strange issue.

Same issue for years! Lol
I’ve replaced the engine and basically rebuilt my 3rd gen 6MT from the ground up and I still can’t get the damn VSA light to go away or traction control to work. I figure we drive 6MT’s, so screw it. We don’t really need the VSA nor do we need traction control! lol. If I ever fix this issue, I’ll be sure to post about it. Cheers. 🍻
